extends TypedFunction

#{substring(s, start)} / #{substring(s, start, end)} — replacement for the legacy $ST{...} SubstringVar.

Both endpoints are clamped to [0, len(s)] so out-of-range arguments don't throw — matches the legacy SubstringVar behavior.
